Sometimes fake families lead to real friendships. Thanks to the brilliant casting of Tyler the Film that has been the case over a few days on set this past month. Meet my most recent fake family - the handsome Stephen Yoemans and the best daughters a lady could ask for Sally-Anne and her (not really) big sister Chelsey Grant. Set in a dystopian world where graduating seniors are sometimes forced to make the biggest decisions of their lives, I have the dumb luck of marrying well and raising two perfect girls. Additionally, in the past month I've had two visits to Chicago working on Rumination and have built another sort of family, that of creative people working toward a shared goal who become friends. A rehearsal that ended in a general discussion of film while watching The Land Before Time and a shoot date that ended in giggle fits and selfies. I cannot wait to see what we managed to catch on film and seeing what other shenanigans this crew gets up to. <3

6/30/2016 Grape Boy: Fermentation of Justice - Award, Our House, Rumination Raises Funds and The Parasite in the St. Louis Filmmakers ShowcaseRead NowGrape Boy: Fermentation of Justice was shown as part of Group C in the Minneapolis 48 Hour Film Festival on June 15 at the Theatres at Mall of America. Group C sold the house, the only group to do so this year, and featured some pretty funny and compelling films. Still, when the dust settled and awards were handed out, it was Grape Boy that won the Audience Favorite Award for the night. Way to go WC Productions! Photo: Partial cast and crew, Grape Boy: Fermentation of Justice Video: Click below to watch Grape Boy in all its Seedless Glory This past weekend in Chicago we shot my scenes for Our House. It was a fantastic experience with a cast and crew that were all brand new to me. Filming completes this week and I can't wait to see how all the pieces come together. Photo: Nerves, determination and shenanigans in Chicago. My next Chicago project, Rumination, is gearing up to shoot later this summer and has need for some final funding assistance. I'm really honored to be part of this piece so please help if you can! And last but not least, a film I shot last year in St. Louis, The Parasite, will get its first festival showing at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase - July 19, 2016, 9:30 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre. I can't be there but if you find yourself in St. Louis with a free evening, please swing in and support some up and coming filmmakers! See a teaser of our film below, and we'll see you at the cinema! Later this summer I'll be working on a short film in Chicago called Rumination written and directed by KJ Sadural, a recent Columbia film graduate. I'm really looking forward to digging into that story, but more on that project to come. However, among the crew that I have met working on Rumination thus far is Mack Nevills, a Twin Cities native home for the summer. He and several other current Columbia film students, with director Warner Nieborg at the helm, decided to participate in the Minnesota 48 Hour Film Festival this year and I was fortunate to be invited along to act in their film this past Saturday. I have almost no idea how what I've done, but it involved some VERY yellow make-up, a lot of fruit, and a fair amount of laughter. If that isn't enough to convince you to attend the screening (7:00 PM, June 15, Theatres at Mall of America) I don't know what will. But in a last ditch sales pitch, I'll tell you the name: Grape Boy: Fermenting of Justice. Hope to see you there! I told you it was VERY yellow. :)
Despite the cold weather completely ruining my movie star outfit, the White Matter premier went very well. Really proud of the work everyone put in, and surprised to find myself emotionally moved by the story despite knowing how it ends. I found myself rooting for Corban Noah, who played my brother, to do the right thing. Says a lot for the filmmaking and acting. Congratulations to everyone involved! Pictured: Adam Wells, Corban Noah, Rob Gooding and me with the crazy eyes. It happens, sigh. Up next I'm off to Chicago for a table read for my next project, a pilot called Our House. I'm really excited about the script and can't wait to share more with everyone as we gear up to make the transition from page to film. Speaking of Chicago, I have to say that lately the windy city seems to be putting on a show. Whether the glorious weather, the lousy weather, the street art, the museum art, the food, or the friends (who all are up to amazing things), I do love my home away from home. Next time I need to get to Belmont rocks, though, time to revisit some good memories. Pictured: me, Chicago's bike share program, Lake Michigan, a moray eel, a bubblegum chewing moose, Maggie Wagner, Mary Moore, Reginald Edmund, Liz Taylor and Andy Warhol. Love.
Updates! It seems like an awful lot happening around here lately, so here's the news for today.
White Matter premiers on Friday, May 13th at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design MFA Thesis Exhibition and I'm very excited to see it. If you are free that evening, please stop by! White Matter will be playing on a loop from 6-9 PM at 2201 1st Avenue S., Minneapolis, MN 55404. Next, I try to keep my reel as current as possible, and not let footage sit around. So with the release of The Devil's Hour, a film I have a small role in which shot a few years ago, I have updated and tidied my reel. Please visit the Video page, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Finally, I'm excited to share my brand spanking new voice over demos on my new Voice page. Recording was a great deal of fun! Tom Hambleton of Undertone Music, and Beth Chaplin, author, voice over talent and coach, made the whole process simple and efficient. I look forward to getting them out there for people to hear and exploring all the new opportunities that they afford. Stay tuned, I will be filming two new projects in the coming weeks and will share more about them, as I am able. :) White Matter first, my role in this short film about some pretty dark subject matter shot over a weekend a few weeks back. Great crew and talent on set, and a lot of new-to-me faces. I'm really excited to see how it turns out! Only downside? I believe I've had my fill of cold peas for a while. 🙂 Next, Conference of the Birds has opened! Opening night's house was sold out, which was thrilling, and an excellent reception followed. It was so lovely to see faces from the 2009 production and start catching up. Tomorrow (Sunday, April 3) our 2:30 matinee is our pay what you can and I look forward to the rest of our journey together. We run until April 16th, I hope to see you there!
Click here for more information. I'm so happy announce I'll be returning to work with Pangea World Theater in the spring for their 20th season revisit of Conference of the Birds, a stage adaptation of a Sufi poem. I was in an earlier iteration of Conference with Pangea who also produced the work as their inaugural production in 1996. Below you will see the art from the 2009 production, a Persian depiction of the Simorgh I have long wanted to get as a tattoo in memory of my father.
I am very excited to return to the Pangea circle and have another opportunity to live inside this world. We open April 1, I hope to see you there! |
